OET Preparation Course

Beginner Course – The Number of contact hours: 200 hours (60 days)

Intermediate Course- The number of contact hours: 140 hours (45 days)

Advanced Course – The number of contact hours: 80-100 hrs (30 days)

This is excluding the consultation time for feedback and individual study plan for each student. Apart from this, students would need to dedicate 40-80 hours for required reading of supplementary notes, pre and post session tasks, and assignments.

Course outline

Reading – Reading strategies including practice for speed reading, skimming, and scanning, reading for meaning, developing simple and complex inferential skills from texts. Exam practice with a wide range of texts (medical journals, medical documents etc.) for part A and B daily with feedback and classroom discussion. Vocabulary building.

Listening – Note-taking skills, Exam Practice, wide variety of exercises for listening strategies, for instance, dictation and re-tell lecture

Speaking – Practising a wide variety of role-plays and training them on different aspects of the role-play(for instance, taking patient information/asking questions, explaining treatment to the patient, empathising , dealing with difficult patients/aggressive behavior management, persuading patients for giving advice, compromising, re-assurance, communication strategies for giving advice sensitively etc). In addition, classes on pronunciation, fluency, tone and intonation.

Writing- Analysis of case-notes for relevant data selection, organizing and planning the letter, timed writing practice daily long with writing model letters every day, using appropriate vocabulary, feedback according to OET assessment criterion, lessons on advanced grammar, sentence structure.
